Whoever said tattoos are forever is sorely mistaken; it may not be a quick overnight process, but tattoos can and do get removed. Sometimes what we think is a good idea in our early 20s becomes a regretted decision later on – and celebrities aren’t exempt from these blunders.
Some celebrities cover up the name of their exes – the most recent being Ariana Grande. Although we don’t know if it was a makeup cover-up or a more permanent surgical fix, the songstress recently covered up her tattoo of ex-fiancé Pete Davidson. Ariana is in the company of the many other celebrities who have utilized tattoo removal or cover-ups.
We may not have removed infamous tattoos off of celebrities, but we are proud to be tattoo removal experts in Toronto offering high-quality services. We’d be happy to remove that regretted tattoo of yours! We offer the lowest rates in the business, utilize state of the art lasers, and have over two decades of experience under our belt. With over 30,000 treatments done in our clinic since 2001, we encourage you to learn about our history; our clinic boasts a variety of experienced doctors who want to help you!
Remember – if you’re regretting that tattoo from 10 years ago or are just looking for a change, there is no shame; tattoo removal is a common, standard procedure and we are experts at it. If celebrities can regret and remove their tattoos, so can you.
These are the best celebrity tattoo removal stories:
Kaley Cuoco
This Big Bang Theory star turned to Instagram to confirm that, yes, she got the tattoo of her wedding date with ex-husband Ryan Sweeting removed. Yikes. Her cheeky caption read “note to self – do not mark your body with any future wedding dates 😂 #under30mistakes #donttakeyourselftooseriouslykids.” We’d say so.
Angelina Jolie
Before Angelina Jolie had a tattoo on her left arm of the geographical coordinates of the birthplaces of her children, she had a tattoo of Billie Bob Thornton’s name. After splitting with the actor, she removed the tattoo and eventually replaced it with the sentimental tattoo that symbolizes all of her children.
It’s hard to keep up with Angelina’s many tattoos, but we give her credit for finding a way to replace an irrelevant tattoo with one that so beautifully keeps her children with her always.
Amber Rose
What was once a tattoo of her ex Wiz Khalifa, is now a tattoo of musician Slash. Let’s be honest – few people can pull off arm sleeves like Amber. It definitely could have been worse – her tattoo could have been of another ex, Kanye West.
Pharrell Williams
Musician-producer Pharrell Williams is responsible for one of the more drastic tattoo removals on this list. He opted to go all out. In addition to using laser removal to get rid of his entire sleeve of tattoos, he had new skin grown in a test tube — so it could be used to cover up his arms. Hey, if it makes him happy, we’re happy.
Kelly Osbourne
Kelly Osbourne is slowly – but surely – removing a bunch of her many tattoos, one of which was a keyboard. To stay updated on her progress, you can always follow her on Instagram where she keeps us up-to-date on her process. Her tattoo removal is definitely a lengthy journey, but it’s ambitious and shows commitment on Kelly’s part.
Britney Spears
Britney Spears once got a rumoured Madonna-inspired tattoo after the infamous 2013 MTV VMA kiss that the entire world heard. The singer removed the Hebrew symbols that translated into “God” in 2008 after the two drifted apart.
Johnny Depp
Perhaps the most iconic celebrity tattoo removal story to date is Johnny Depp’s tattoo cover-up. What was once “Winona Ryder” on his arm, became “Wino Forever” after the couple split. This is considered the more confusing of celebrity coverups — because what is Wino? We have to give him points for creativity.
Megan Fox
According to US Magazine, Megan Fox opted to remove her Marilyn Monroe tattoo after completely changing how she viewed the iconic Hollywood star. In an interview with Amica, an Italian fashion magazine, she explained her change of heart. She expressed in the interview that she felt Marilyn was a disturbed, negative person, and confirmed that she’d removed the tattoo because she doesn’t want to attract “negative energy.”
Eva Longoria
To be transparent about her tattoo removal story, this Desperate Housewives actress actually shared her removal experience on Snapchat. The video showed her removing the tattoo of a star on her wrist, but she also chronicled the removal of the one on the back of her neck symbolizing her ex-husband Tony Parker, as well as one on her back of a cross. Seems like more of a determined not-so-housewife to us.
Heidi Klum
After Heidi Klum divorced Seal in 2012, she did what anyone would – she removed her tattoo of his name. Can you blame her?
Pete Davidson
Like his ex-fiance Ariana Grande, Pete Davidson also made a move to alter his ex-inspired tattoo. His tattoo removal process was more of a cover-up, as he changed the Ariana-inspired bunny tattoo into a heart.
Iggy Azalea
Iggy Azalea tattooed “Live Love A$AP” on the inside of her fingers during her relationship with A$AP Rocky, and then tattooed a big X over his name after they parted ways. Simple, and to the point.
Mark Wahlberg
Mark Wahlberg’s body was once a canvas for a few tattoos – but he has since removed them. The most notable removal was that of the tattoo on his chest – a rosary with a cross, and the words “In God I trust.” It turns out, the tattoo was a bit much for him. The removal became a learning lesson for both him and his kids, who he reportedly brought to his tattoo removal appointments. Although, he did – sort of – maintain one tattoo. He replaced the shamrock tattoo on his ankle with one of Sylvester the Cat with Tweety Bird in his mouth. True story.
Adrienne Bailon
Former Cheetah Girl Adrienne Bailon has the best tattoo removal story yet – she once had Rob Kardashian’s name tattooed on her bottom. Need we say more?

Laser Tattoo Removal gaining momentum?
If you saw Adam Levine at this year’s Super Bowl, you’d think tattoos are definitely “in”. There’s an explosion of celebrities with tattoos, as we can see in the above blog. But there is also something of a backlash, with more and more Generation Z and younger millennials opting out of the inked body. It seems that along with other aspects of green consciousness, the time-honored tradition of tattooing one’s body is starting to fall out of favor within certain groups of the younger generation
In Toronto in the early 90’s there were no more than a dozen tattoo shops in the City. Today there are well over 150 in the GTA. Tattoos really took off in the early 90’s with pro athletes like Dennis Rodman, and grunge acts like the Red Hot Chili Peppers bringing them mainstream. Madonna and Cyndi Lauper were even earlier, circa 1984. By the 2000’s of course, the vast majority of pro athletes, musicians and actors had tattoos and they were essentially mainstream.
But everything has its time, and perhaps we are starting to see a swing back in the other direction. After all bell bottom jeans were in during the 70’s, fell out of favor and came back for a while about 5 years ago. And we are having another Woodstock.
So, if you are having doubts about your tattoo, and want to try laser tattoo removal, give us a call! We are here to help.
