Sclerotherapy Treatment of Spider Veins

Sclerotherapy is the injection of a medicine into the small, unsightly veins of the leg to reduce the appearance of spider veins, as well as reduce the symptoms associated with spider veins, such as swelling, cramping, aching, and itching.

Sclerotherapy is a technique that has been used by medical professionals for decades, and remains  the most effective treatment for spider veins today, though the techniques and practices have come a long way since this treatments inception. Our injectors are experts at sclerotherapy, and have trained physicians from around North America.

The injections used contain a sclerosing solution, a medicine that helps spider veins and smaller varicose veins to shrink, collapse and disappear in this minimally invasive treatment that will help you love the way your legs look.

Spider Veins and What Causes Them

Spider veins are tiny blood vessels located near the surface of the skin, measuring no more than 1-2 millimeters in diameter. When these veins are weakened, they dilate, causing them to become visible above the skin. Spider veins can appear nearly anywhere on the body, but are most common on the face and legs.

Spider veins often develop more frequently as we age, and are common among those that are pregnant or are involved in activities that require them to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time, which puts stress on your veins.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does sclerotherapy vein treatment hurt?

Our nurse-sclerotherapists use the finest, most minimally invasive needles to administer the sclerosing solution to minimize discomfort. Few patients experience discomfort during therapy, though a numbing agent may also be used if desired.

  • How long does sclerotherapy vein treatment take?

Treatment time will vary depending on the number of veins being treated, but most sessions are completed within 30 minutes.

  • How long before I start seeing results?

The appearance of spider veins will diminish over time, and can sometimes take several weeks, depending on your skin type. Multiple sclerotherapy treatments may be needed in extreme cases.

  • What happens after my sclerotherapy vein treatment?

Heaving lifting and intense activity should be avoided during the 2-3 days following your vein treatment. However, you can return to your normal activity immediately preceding your treatment, though you may experience minor redness and irritation around the treated area during the first day.

  • How much does sclerotherapy in Toronto cost?

The total cost of your sclerotherapy treatment will vary based on the number of veins that need to be treated. Without a doubt our clinic is the most cost-effective in town, since we ensure the deeper feeders are treated and that there is a proper diagnosis. We have seen many patients who have spent thousands of dollars elsewhere, only to experience continual and rapid recurrences of their problems. • Are there other forms of treatment for spider veins?

In addition to sclerotherapy, another effective treatment of spider veins is through the use of lasers. We have the most powerful medical-grade vascular lasers available, and our Physicians are highly experienced in their use. During spider vein laser treatment, intense light is directed at spider veins, causing them to collapse and disappear for ever. Laser treatment of spider veins using a VBeam Laser is particularly effective in cases where spider veins are too small to be treated with sclerotherapy injections.
